So, what is coaching?

Coaching is a collaborative, future-focused process that helps you clarify what you want, why it matters, and how to move toward it, with intention, support, and accountability.

Coaching is not psychotherapy or counselling. Rather than focusing on diagnosing or unpacking the past, coaching is a forward-focused, action-oriented partnership that helps you gain clarity, build confidence, and move toward your goals. That said, it can complement therapy beautifully by supporting momentum, mindset, and intentional change.

I am a fully accredited Associate Certified Coach (ACC) through the International Coaching Federation (ICF), the gold standard in professional coaching globally. This means my coaching practice has been rigorously assessed against international core competencies, ethics and effectiveness standards, so you can invest in coaching with confidence. My coaching approach is strengths-based and brain-friendly, informed by neuroscience, positive psychology, and curious, compassionate questioning. I help clients uncover insight, align with what matters, and take purposeful action toward meaningful change.

...and how can it actually help?

When done well – and when grounded in evidence – coaching can be one of the most powerful tools for personal and professional growth. Let’s break it down:

Coaching is not advice-giving; it’s a partnership

According to the International Coaching Federation (ICF), coaching is “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximise their personal and professional potential.

So coaching is actually about asking powerful questions, listening deeply, and helping you uncover the answers within, because you are the expert in your own life. Think of it as having a thinking buddy who walks beside you, helps you get out of your own way, and supports you in becoming who you want to be.

Coaching provides an opportunity to pause, and space to realign, reimagine, and reset.

So… is this life coaching, leadership coaching, or get-my-stuff-together coaching?

Honestly? It’s a bit of all three… and then some.

This is evidence-based coaching meets life, mindset and transformational coaching, with a dose of strategy and a lot of heart.

My clients are often ready for change, but need support getting unstuck, reconnecting with their values, and finding the clarity and confidence to move forward.

Here are just a few things I often hear:

🌀 “I feel stuck, but I’m not sure why.”
🧭 “I want to redesign my life around what actually matters to me now.”
🧠 “I have so many ideas, but I don’t know where to start.”
🫣 “I struggle with self-doubt and second-guessing.”
⚡ “I want to make a change, but something keeps holding me back.”
🎯 “I’m great at helping others stay on track, but I don’t prioritise my own goals.”
🎤 “I want to lead, but I need support communicating clearly and showing up with confidence.”

Whether you’re seeking growth, healing, or direction, I’ll help you find your voice, build momentum, and move forward with purpose.

What do you mean 'evidence-based' coaching?

Evidence-based coaching simply means the approach is informed by the best available research and professional expertise. It's a coaching approach that draws on well-established disciplines like:

  • Positive Psychology (what helps people thrive, not just survive)

  • Neuroscience (how the brain builds habits, motivation, and resilience)

  • Adult Development Theory (how we grow, learn, and adapt through life)

  • Behavioural Science (what actually drives change)

When coaching is grounded in evidence and delivered with care, it helps people grow their psychological capital (a fancy term researchers use for the mindsets that help us flourish) which includes hope, self-efficacy, resilience and optimism.

These fields give us powerful tools – from goal-setting and habit formation to reflective questioning and strengths-based development – that have been shown to support meaningful change. A good coach uses these tools with you, not on you.

Coaching isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about creating space for better questions – and the courage to act on what you find.

Is coaching right for you?

I work with individuals navigating:

  • Life and career transitions

  • Burnout recovery or mindset challenges

  • Leadership uncertainty or imposter syndrome

  • A deep desire for more clarity, creativity or confidence

You might be a purpose-led leader, a parent craving space to reconnect with yourself, or a creative professional overflowing with ideas and not sure where to start.

You don't need to have all the answers, you just need to be ready for honest reflection and meaningful change.

I blend story, strategy and soul

I bring 15+ years of experience in leadership, communications, and digital strategy, combined with formal training in applied coaching, mental health, and facilitation.

I’m a qualified coach with a Graduate Certificate in Applied Coaching and an ACC accreditation through the International Coaching Federation (ICF), drawing on tools from neuroscience, positive psychology, and creative problem-solving to support meaningful change.

My coaching style is relational, strengths-based, and deeply human. I meet you where you are, and walk beside you as you clarify what matters and start designing a life or leadership style that aligns.

"Joy has an infectious calm and a knack for asking the question under the one you thought mattered. It’s friendly, steady, and somehow gets you to the heart of things faster than you expect. As someone who's naturally reflective, I often think I've thought things through "properly" by the time I get to our coaching sessions, but she always finds a way to go deeper."
